Weapon Stuff 2.0

I ended up scrapping what I had done in ZBrush because it was being a pain in the butt and just redoing it in Maya. The textures came out pretty well, I think. I’m especially happy with the jewel texture and how it looks translucent. The only problem I ran into was that the blade is supposed to glow, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out. It glows in Maya but doesn’t seem to be glowing in Unity, so if anyone has any idea as to how to fix that, I’d really appreciate it.

  1. I really really like how the textures look. Honestly, I’m not sure why the glowing effect didn’t transfer over to Unity since I haven’t used Unity a lot other than for this class, but my best guess is that Maya has some texture qualities/ settings which Unity doesn’t have. You could look it up online to see if there’s a way to change the settings around in Unity to make a glowing effect. Otherwise you could always do some weird work-around method to get the sword to glow like adding little lights and stuff like that (although that’s definitely not ideal)

  2. These textures look really good! I especially like the red orb at the end of the curvy thingy (a technical term, I’m sure). The only issue I see is the white piece near the blade (between the gold and red pieces) has a part that isn’t completely attached to the red piece below it. In the top picture you can see a shadow that goes underneath it. i would just make sure the two overlap and mesh combine them, or boolean them together after they overlap. Hope this helps!

  3. I’m happy you got the hand-guard it to work out, it looks really good! A suggestion is that the texture/normal map for the gold conical part of the handle looks a bit too intense.

  4. I like how the whole hilt cross guard pommel is coming along. The shape of your blade is interesting and I think it works well here. I would suggest working on your textures/normal map, like Kyle said, some look intense.
