Ryan Doyle: Augmented Selfie

This project used the grab hotspot patch as a basis. For this project, I was hoping to evoke feelings of anxiety, claustrophobia, and chaos. There are a total of 6 different effects that can be triggered by moving your hands on different parts of the screen. These effects will deactivate if you wait 3 seconds.

Wow that got wild. I definitely got a sense of anxiety and chaos from this project. I think all the different jarring effects have the effect you intended for them. However, something I think helps with generating the feelings you mention is subtlety. If the effects were less jarring, and the sound mixing was more ghostly, I think it would have generated some of the same sensations.

Whoa this does an amazing job of capturing anxiety and claustrophobia. The more motion there was and the closer it was to the camera, the more intense the effects got. The sound effects on top of the visuals come together to build on those feeling.
Personally I liked how crazy it got towards then end, almost portraying that feeling multiple strong emotions at the same time can be very chaotic.

I did feel very uneasy while watching the video, so your patch definitely did its job! I liked the variety of effects applied and the accompanying audio, but I wonder if smoothly transitioning between them might help make the experience even more unnerving?

I think you executed your idea well. It was certainly unsettling to watch at times. The most drastic moment at the end was startling. How did you create those effects?

You achieved your goal of providing the feeling of anxiety. The pixelation effect and the eerie music really help here. The ending reminds me of the Spongebob episode where Spquidward is stuck in the void alone.
