Sylvia Lin – Meme Remixer

I have always been a fan of Nyan cat and Baby shark! I was unsure about what to do for this project and suddenly the thought of combing these two things struck me. The rhythm is perfect for what I envisioned in my mind!

I must say it took me a while to get here – I was trying to figure out a way to pass jit.playlist into jit.movie and it seemed to me that was impossible. With that being said, I was able to use gate and switch to achieve my originally intended effect so I am glad with what I have right now. I also got the chance to revisit a lot of techniques professor taught previously and was able to incorporate a bunch of them in the patchers below.

I ended up only needing 5 buttons on the Retro Power controller. Although it was only 5, I had to write a little note to myself so I remember what each did while performing.

This has probably been my most complicated project so far and it definitely took me a long time to comb through all my thoughts so all the controls can be manipulated with its full potential.

It was difficult for me to film the interaction single-handed so this short clip is only for demo purposes.

  1. Fun remix! Glad to see that you are integrating different techniques from previous assignments. I appreciate your persistence with seeing this challenging assignment through.

Also, you my have already figured this out, but jit.movie and jit.playlist are basically interchangeable, but consequently are incompatible with each other because they perform the same function in the signal chain. There are techniques for setting up playlists with jit.movie. My favorite involves the use of the umenu object – see this for a related example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boRKhGs3I9M
