Colin Ancalmo – Augmented Selfie

I made a selfie filter that plays music and adds visuals when you dance. It is build on the Motion Scrubber and Faces2GL2 patches from class. The faster you dance, the faster the song plays.

This is fantastic. The way you interact with the camera is so natural. In some other projects (at least in mine) the interaction feels forced, but with this the patch just rewards you for having fun. I’d say to take it to the next level, tighter head tracking for the glasses and better lighting effects.

A cool idea, executed really well!

I like how natural this project looks. It doesn’t feel like it’s trying to force camera integration into the project. It just straight up looks like a natural and fun integration of the camera into the project. The music selection and visuals also help feed this natural feeling of the video.

In addition to the fun visuals and audio that everyone else mentioned, I also appreciate how intuitive the interface is – you just have to move around! CV tracking can be extremely finicky, so it’s great that you could make something that doesn’t require any special “trick” to get it to work. I also think that the increasing opacity really helps with making this program easy to pick up, since it shows the user a glimpse of what they’re missing by only moving a little bit.

I really like how you took the idea of dancing to music and built an augmented environment to go with it. It looks fun! Maybe you could add a few more lights or props to the scene. I think someone suggested a disco ball?

I love the creative thoughts behind this! I think the Disco ball effect surely shed some light of entertainment! I think the thug life effect would go very well with this animation, which is something you might be interested in checking.
I think another bonus is your own body moves! Your dance moves are funny and go very well with the music of your choice!

Fantastic idea on the augmented selfie. The way the colors flash in and out makes it seem as though you are really at a dance party. What made you add the shades?

This is so entertaining to watch, and I would assume even more entertaining to do it yourself. How much time did you spend dancing in front of a camera for this project?
