As I’ve started getting more and more into D&D this past term, it’s been on my mind frequently, and I can’t think of any game ideas outside of that theme so I’m going to run with it. My game will be an action/adventure fantasy game, where the play controls a warrior on a quest to find treasure and kill some monsters. They will start in a pleasant forested area near the mouth of a dungeon. After defeating a pack of goblins on the surface, the player will venture down into the dungeon, where they will advance through a few rooms, fighting more goblins and ultimately facing off with the goblin chief. After defeating him, they can open a treasure chest to reveal a shiny new magical sword.
The characters that would need to be created for this game include the player character, one regular goblin, and one boss goblin. The main hero assets that need to be modeled in greater detail are the player’s weapon, the treasure chest at the end, and the new weapon earned as a reward. Since the environment consists of two main areas, the forest and the dungeon, different sets of assets would be needed for each section. The forest would need a couple types of trees, shrubs, grass, bits of debris like fallen logs, and a skybox with some faraway clouds and mountains. The dungeon would need brick walls, stone pillars, iron bars, and torch sconces. Overall the look of the game will be between realistic and stylized, with very saturated, bright colors and slightly cartoony shapes on the models. The visual style will take semi-realistic materials and paint over them with bolder, flatter colors. This will appeal to the target audience, which is kids/teens as well as any fans of stylized fantasy RPGs like Legend of Zelda or World of Warcraft.

I am pleased by you incorporating this project into your love for DnD! I think this is a really good idea since you are passionate about it, you’ll stay interested in the project. My question, is your project story/characters influenced by DnD campaigns you have played in the past?
Nope! I’m currently in the middle of my first ever campaign so this is all just something I’m doing from scratch.
I think it’s cool that your game has two completely separate areas, pleasant forest and scary dungeon. There could be some interesting contrast there. Do you have color plalets in mind for the two vastly different settings?
Yes, the forest will be bright green with the grass & trees, alongside bright blues/whites for the sky and clouds. The dungeon will likely be a darker, duller blue/purple for the bricks, with pops of orange/yellow from the torchlight
I like the flow and how dynamic this level will be. Will the dungeon goblins have some more characteristic differences from the surface goblins?
They will probably be the same goblins, I will try to avoid making more than two goblin types
As someone who has also been getting more into D&D lately, I think its really cool that you’re doing a D&D based concept. I don’t see reference images for what the goblins will look like, so I’m wondering if you’re thinking of more standard goblins- and if not, what changes might you make?
I’m not sure yet. Not even sure if they will be goblins, I still need to do some research on what kind of monster to do and what they might look like. Maybe they will be skeletons
I love you pulling in the wonderful world of DnD, it’s such a wildly loved and enjoyable game. What kind of lighting do you plan to do for the inside of the dungeon; would the player have a lightsource, would it be magical, torches on the walls, etc.?
I will likely use torches mounted into sconces on the walls
We haven’t really discussed audio in our game designs, but your concept strikes me as a game that would have dramatic music. Have you thought about or would you consider adding background music? Maybe the outside could have ambient sounds and the inside can have echoing creature sounds.
This sounds like a good idea! I definitely want to include this kind of music and ambience
A DnD game is not without its RPG like elements. Are we going to see some RPG elements in the game (to keep it simple, maybe a couple special abilities like how DnD treats classes) or an even more simplified form of combating?
I’m not sure what the prebuilt programming is capable of, but it will probably just have sword attacks + maybe a health potion feature
