Dylan Valev Modular Building Kit Texturing

Here are my 10 pieces of modular build kit that are textured, have a material, and imported to Unity.

Artist Question: I wanted to go for a checkerboard-esque style with the materials to maintain both a rustic and geometric appearance. However, to spice things up I wanted to add a different pattern to the columns to have some more variance in the house. Does the gray stone texture on the columns ruin the cohesion of the furniture?

Opinion: I really like the checkered theme you are going for.

I planned on have the walls being central to the building, having geometric shapes seen from all places within and outside the ranch.

Statement of Meaning: The textures you’ve made for your pieces suit the style that they are modeled in and present a jig-saw puzzle vibe.
Opinion: The way you’ve modeled your pieces is so interesting and lovely.

Statement: I haven’t seen this style of furniture in many other imagined places, I also think it’s unique from the geometric style.

Answer to question: I think the grey doesn’t ruin your furniture’s cohesion, but it does seem a bit plain and sterile. Depending on your intentions, this may or may not be your goal.

I can see this furniture being sold in stores that carry quality eccentric items! They are very cohesive and clearly a set.

The pillars being the only ones with stone throws me off a little. Some solutions might be to a) add more stone accents to the overall set or b) instead of stone, use different types of wood such as beechwood or cherrywood to change up the colors. What other variations have you considered and what are the reasons you chose stone over those?

I really like the geometric design and I’m not sure if you’ve done this already, but I think chamfering/beveling the edges slightly (by .1 or .2) would help make the pieces look more realistic but not take away from the shape.

I have experimented with different shades of wood painted on other furniture to have the pillar’s colors feel less off-putting.
