Hannah Belan – Final Project

When I came up with this game initially I definitely thought I would be able to get more done than the term allowed; I planned to do a scene with both interior and exterior modeling as well as more interactive portions. Now that I’ve completed the project I see that I reeled in my expectations a bit to a more modest project for a single term. I created a small home with a lofted bedroom, a kitchen and dining room, and a living room. The concept of the game is still a story told by interaction, one that would tell of memories that can create a positive impact on the character, but there are still problems with animation and getting the game to run as a playable feature. For now, it is more of an art piece than a game, but I believe with a little more time it could be something fun and interesting. If I could go back to the beginning of the term with all of the knowledge I have gained about the game creation process and the different programs we used in this class I believe I could make something much more impressive and interesting, I would have focused more on creating a larger and more interactable environment and would have designated a lot more time towards actually getting my animations and character to work in-game and not just on their own. I think it also would have been pretty cool if I added a fogginess to the vision, almost hazy, and had it become less noticeable as memorabilia was collected and the end of the game drew near.

Here is the link to my google drive that includes the zip file of the game and scenes: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gRp-MTxcjORy7wkJOQycHOljI8TN8kos?usp=sharing

My game is not currently playable, but I suggest checking out the zip file to take any closer looks! 😀

I love all your objects with cloth, they looks so realistic!

Looking at your level, I feel you achieved that feeling of emptiness. I think you might not have created a full exterior and interior space, but the items feel cohesive and work well with your music choice. I’m glad you stayed true to your initial concept. I really enjoyed seeing your tree and staircase designs, they seemed fell thought out and fit well with the hollow theme.

This level does a great job with the mood you intended to create, especially with the lighting and texturing.

I love the style here! Maybe it’s the light fixtures, the color scheme, or the unusual way the floors are laid out, but it all comes together to make a house that feels really modern. It’s stylish and distinct, but not in a way which distracts from the empty atmosphere.

I love how I can feel your scene. We discussed the somberness in the space during the class period, but i really just want to reiterate that I think you 100% are making us feel things with this space. I also love the design of your character!

Somber is the word I think I meant to say during our critique! December seems so lonely in this nicely decorated and maintained house. I like that you used the cloth sim tools too! If you continue developing, I think a great juxtaposition would be a lively spring outdoors that is inaccessible to players until they reach a certain point or complete some tasks – it’s like they are trapped and can see the good but can’t obtain it.

I really love the way you structured the home. Like other’s said, it gives an feeling of somberness but also loneliness. This is how you can tell a quick story just by the environment and you did a great job with it!
