My character doesn’t have the ability to leave the snail’s back, so most of the animations are secondary undulations.

Idle animation with up and down head bobbing
“Walk” animation with more forward and backward bobbing
“Run” animation with start, loop, and end
I like that you found a way to make these animations a little different. The way they lean forward in the last one and rock back-and-forth in the last two make it clear how they’re supposed to be moving even out of context.
Also did you make the rig from scratch, and if so how much experience do you have? It’s impressive, but seems a bit overkill considering how little the character has to move.
I did make the rig from scratch, but it’s quite inefficient since I have very little rigging experience. I was hoping for more dynamic movement but since I hadn’t set up and IK handles, I animated these with just the joint rotations. I got some feedback about how to set up the rig better so hopefully it’ll be better in the second pass!
Your animation really shows the movement of your character creatures well!
Your snail may be my favorite character that anyone has done so far, he’s so frikkin cute! I love the animation for him; I thought that it may be difficult to show the weight of him pulling the mouse and himself while moving, but you’ve totally got it down.
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad he looks cute to other people and not just in my mind 🙂
I also love you snail character, especially the texturing! I think your slug animation works well, I would suggest maybe editing the run animation to be a little less rigid in the starts and stops of your mouse character. The quick jerk seems slightly unnatural, but I still think your movement of the slug will look cool in your game. I especially like the eye movements of your slug in the walk cycle.
The mouse animations are definitely not where I’d like them to be – they are so rigid and ‘jerky’. As I mentioned in another comment, I don’t yet have IK handle set up for him so it was a lot harder to make his movements natural.
I like the secondary motion on the mouse when the snail “walks”. Looks great!
