Isaiah Fleischer – Paper Nature Revision

Paper Nature Revision

I had two main goals when doing the revison of this project. First, I wanted to make the piece easier to interact with by setting up capacitive mode on the MakeyMakey board. Second, I wanted to add some features to the project, namely an audio component.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the code working that would put the MakeyMakey board in capacitive mode. This was frustrating, but hey, not all things in life work out. I was able to get audio working though, which was nice. The globe now plays a random weather sound about 50% of the time when the time changes. (In the video it appears to be much less than 50% but I just got unlucky) This helps the user feel like they’re travelling to a new part of the world with a different time and different climate. I also like how it adds a new sense to the piece, on top of visual from the lights and tactile from holding the globe.

I decided not to change the cord going into the globe or add a stand because I really like how the user is able to pick it up and move it around however they please. Further, the nature of the globe’s construction makes it very difficult to make any modifications to the wires exiting the bottom.

Overall I’m very pleased with this project and I’m excited to see what the rest of the course has in store.

Below is a video of the globe in action and a screenshot of the Max Patch.
