Isaiah Fleischer – Abstract Animation

I drew inspiration for this piece from two musical pieces, Alors On Dance by Stromae, and Bedford by Too Many Zooz. Both prominently feature the saxophone and strong bass lines. This style really appealed to me, and I felt like it would be a could candidate for this assignment. The powerful and crisp notes are well represented by the strong colors of the circles, punctuated by their sudden entrance and departure from the screen. Further, both of these pieces feature an element of unpredictability. I incorporated this with circles that fly out in a random direction from the center when the saxophone is triggered.

This was my first time using Max to make an audio track, so it was a really great learning experience. I’m not entirely satisfied with the sound of the final piece, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

  1. This is awesome! I like the samples you’ve chosen and the way you’ve sequenced the rhythm of the sounds and images. It’s a good first musical experiment. For serious audiovisual production with Max it integrates very well with Ableton Live. Thanks for sharing those songs too, I didn’t know either one and like them a lot.

Nice use of the sharp notes juxtaposition to fast images, really helped allow me to focus on the beat of the music and begin to notice a pattern in the song.

I love the boldness of the colors and the punchiness of the circle blending with the music and the abrupt transitions. It really brings out that oomph.
