Nick Sorensen – Short Bio and Artworks

Hi,

My name is Nick Sorensen. I’m a senior studying Robotics Engineering with a double major in Electrical and Computer Engineering. My experience with digital and traditional art is fairly limited. Most of my digital art experience has been here at WPI in the 3D modeling and animation classes. I used to have much more free time in high school and would often use that time to practice photography. In my coursework in modeling and animation, I spent many late nights in the lab refining my models until I felt proud to show them off. I hope to bring the same enthusiasm to this class and tie in my understanding of hardware to make exciting pieces of art.

My experience with hardware and software is much more in-depth.  In my free time, I design and build motor controllers for combat robotics and other projects. I have experience programming in C, C++, Java, and Python. Most of my programming experience is with embedded C on microcontrollers. I have the datasheet for the Arduino microcontroller (atmega328p) pretty much memorized.  I have a website that I post some of my projects on which can be found here.

Like I said before most of my free time is spent designing boards. I like to spend extra time to make the actual board design visually appealing. For example, choosing to group traces together in a bus gives a cool classic circuit board look. A lot of my inspiration comes from staring at other PCBs from various products.

Most of my artistic goals are simple, I want to be proud of my project. Additionally, if I can explore a topic that I don’t know much about and gain knowledge that’s a plus.

Below are some of my projects from the 3D modeling and animation classes that I took here at WPI.
