Jarod Romankiw – Seasonal Abstraction

I was inspired to make this piece when I was flipping through the LL Bean catalog for the seasonal clothing. I found the plaid style to be reminiscent of the abstract art we were studying in AR 3200. The simple square shapes with seasonal colors gave me inspiration for this piece. It was technically challenging for me to make this in Max since I have never used this software before. However, I tried my hardest to make it functional, and I used the Bang objects as requested by the assignment.

Spring: The bright yellow of the sun and purple from blossoming flowers.

Summer: Green grass and blue skies.

Fall: Changing Leaves

Winter: Red and Green remind me of Christmas.

Max: You can ‘bang’ a season to appear on the screen using the toggles on the left. I’m sure there is a better way to do this, but I’m a beginner.

While I mentioned my inspiration came from an LL Bean magazine, I originally took the inspiration from Gunter Fruhtrunk’s work. I found his geometric style and simple choice of solid colors inspiring. I love graphic design, and flat icons/graphics has a special place in my creative mind.
