Taking inspiration from the middle school dances of yesteryear, I wanted to make an interactive Cha Cha Slide using the webcam, the individual sound effects from the track and also using stock glowing footage that could help visualize the sound whenever they were triggered. I used the basic Hotspot template as a baseline and moved the bang buttons into the corresponding areas of the camera for easier use, and linked them up to the custom sounds and animations.
The real challenge is matching the timing of your movements along with the song in the background, as it’s a little tricky.
This reminds me a lot of the dancing arcade machines. The visual indicators are great also. Great job!
This brings back so many memories from Middle School. The Cha Cha slide is already a very interactive song, and I really like how you let the user play along even more than usual. I’m note sure how feasible this would be, but would it be possible to trigger the sounds when you actually do the dance move instead of just placing your hand in a corner of the screen?
I do the Cha Cha Slide at Zumba every week. It’s so interactive, and you made good use of that here. I like how you let the user play along. If you could track the movement of the hand and translate that to a patch bump that would be really cool.
I like that its kind of a mix between a soundboard and a Dance Dance Revolution game. It would be cool to also have a a beat in the background, and maybe the guy who yells instructions at you in the original song could do so here at random intervals.
The music and the visual effects are awesome. I think this design has a potential to be used in real dancing as some one would change the effect of lights or anything by make some gestures as trigger.
