When I first started teaching myself IOS development, the first simple game I made to practice my skills was called Flappy Drev. Unfortunately, that was so long ago now that I do not have screenshots or video from the final product that I had made. I did not know anything about the 2D art or animation back then, and I remember the graphics being very bad. I was just happy I could get something working at the time. For this project, I would like to bring that project back by recreating it using skills and techniques that I have learned since then (which is a lot over the course of the past six years). In particular, I will try to incorporate what we have learned in this course so far to put together a Flappy Bird clone with me as the central character instead of a flying bird. I also think that I should add objects in the game that closer represent me rather than assets that were from the original Flappy Bird game. Because of this, I will try to incorporate hockey themes objects and a hockey themed map to traverse.
For this project, we will also be experimenting with using the Makey Makey controller kit. I will be ordering the kit and probably using pieces of play dough as my controller’s buttons. It is super cool how Makey Makey works, so I am very excited to experiment with that! I might want the play dough to be fixed to something hockey related like a broken hockey stick or some other piece of hockey equipment to complete the theme of my game.

Because of the limited timeframe I have to make this game, I will be focussing on getting the art right and not worrying as much about the technical aspects of the game. The game itself is not too detailed though, so I feel like I should still be able to get it working the way I want it to in time.

For my color palette, I really want to use the VINIK24 palette from the Lowspec website (https://lospec.com/palette-list/vinik24) because it has darker colors that would make for good snow or ice graphics. It would also make my game look colder overall which is fitting for ice hockey and ice rinks.
I plan on spending a lot of time perfecting the scene of my game as best as I can, but for now I made a low pixel image of what it will look like for a map and game scene when playing the game. I was even able to use the palette already to try to make it using the colors that I will eventually be using!

The mood of my game will be a bit dark and cloudy looking like the picture depicts. The red colors represent me playing hockey for WPI and also me liking the Detroit Red Wings NHL team. The bottom of the screen is going to look like a rink and hockey boards. I plan on adding other elements to the game like hockey related objects (such as pucks) and possibly snow falling.

Here are some pictures from Google that I looked at for reference of the mood of my game and the scene I plan to go for. They all have color palettes similar to mine, which is a bonus!
This game is going to slap! How fast will the players move and will the score points? or will there be other objectives.
