I’ve always wanted to play a board game in the background of ancient Chinese mythology. But no one has done it, so I figured I could take this opportunity to think of one myself.
My idea is basically like Monopoly, players need to keep moving forward in a circular map. Collect elements(Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth)along the way to level up your character, whoever reaches the highest level first wins.

But that’s not the point of this assignment, what I want to do in this assignment is the spell cards in this game.
As we all know, board games like this usually need to introduce some functional cards to frustrate other players or benefit yourselves. In Monopoly, they named those cards Chance Cards. Some other board games call them spells, magic, omens, etc, depending on the background of the game.
In my case, I call them Blessings, blessings from ancient gods. So I wanted the art style from a very long time ago. I studied some ancient buildings and I found this.

These are the decorations at the end of the eaves, called Wadang.

The picture I showed earlier is the totem of mythical beasts, from Qin(221- 206 BCE) and Han Dynasties(202 BCE- 220 CE). I feel like this is exactly what I want.
At the same time, as an item that players need to use. I wanted to make this prop more distinctive, rather than just a normal card.
So I thought of ancient coins.

Combining the pattern of the Wadang and the shape of the coin, I ended up with this.

This is the finished product of laser cutting:

The effect is even better than I imagined. There is a small problem, that is, I want to highlight the outer circle of the coin, I burned a deeper line at the end. So the powder fell into this crevice. And it makes it seems not very clean.
