Hi, I am Qianlin Duanmu. I am from China. I am a new grad student at WPI. I finished my CS undergraduate degree in Missouri, Truman State University.
Because of my CS background, I like to explore or think about how some game mechanics are implemented by the code. Sometimes you can find the source code of the game made by some small studio. It’s very interesting to see how others do it.
I started a Roguelike game project 2 years ago, just for fun. This made me decide that I wanted to continue studying game development. It also made me realize that my artistic level is limiting my development
So I started teaching myself to sketch last fall. Those are my first painting in May and the same thing I painted last December. Also one of my favorite practices, I call it Latte.

Also, a 2 min video called Useless box. This is a time-waster, basically a man playing with a box for 2 mins.
I’m sure everyone wants to make fun games. Some kind of Art is a required skill for this.
I also like to play the piano and the guitar. I’d say I like the guitar a bit more.
My practice intention of this course is of course to improve my art skills. I want to focus on practicing 3D character creation, and my friend who is learning art recommended that I need to use a graphic tablet for 3d sculpting. So I think it’s also a good time to start to learn to use new tools.

Detailed. Your sketches are excellent. The donut makes me hungry.
Striking. I love your sketches. Wish I was as good at it as you lol.
Detailed, Impressive, how your creating such soft welcoming spaces, they are familiar but also relevant to everyday life, I am excited to see what you make next!!
Immpresive. The useless box is funny, and I watched the man playing with the box for 2 min.
funny – the pole dancing flour sack and the useless box are great!
impressive – I like how you showed before and after works of the same art and am impressed by how much you’ve improved!
Wow! That donut is striking and impressive. Your sketches are detailed and show a great degree of skill. I cannot fathom the amount of practice that must have taken.
Detailed!
Your approach to art seems to be pursued through artistic “studies”, and the result is very detailed 🙂
Shiny!
MWAHAHAHAH! I remember being in your shoes. I’m so very excited for you. I might have an extra art tablet I can give you to play with or maybe keep if you like it.
