This is 4 clear acrylic sheets that are engraved

My project was a 4 sided edge lit box, the acrylic pieces were hand engraved using a Dremel. The idea was for the lights to catch the edges of the engraving in order to create a pleasing view.

The original idea was to have the patterns and the wooden box cut out by laser cutter. when it came to cutting the wood, I couldn’t find the correct settings to allow a clean cut and set the plywood on fire at least 7 times. The laser cutter was not available when I wanted to engrave. I had my dad come out to Worcester so that I could use his power tools to make the wooden box. I used a circular saw a drill and a jigsaw to do my woodwork. I used a dremel to engrave the acrylic, I looked up tools to use for engraving acrylic and a dremel was the answer, I found a YouTube video that showed them doing the same, though the bit I used wasn’t the same as the one in the video. Hand engraving the acrylic took a while to do. I also created a box that holds a single acrylic sheet, to showcase each sheet and for any extra or new acrylic pieces.

When engraving i planned 2 of the 4 designs, the rectangle one and the one that looks like a topographic map. the other 2 I let my self draw while being in the moment, I’m happy that the laser wasn’t available, engraving was fun, it was exciting to try something for the first time on my own. Through this project I was able to try using machinery that I wouldn’t have ever touched elsewise.

The 4 different engravings allows people to find something they like. Playing with the configuration of where each panel can make some wild looking scenes.

Please mute your sound when watching the videos due to background noise that I made , not doing so is on you.
