For my final project, I decided to make a projection box, I was inspired by some untitled pieces by Diet Wiegman where the reflections didn’t match the art pieces. I wanted to do something a little more of twisting reflections, I wanted to incorporate color and make it so there is more than one image hidden in the art piece. Taking this idea I took broken mirror pieces and colored gels to make reflections that create a picture.
The project consisted of two main parts, first was the laser cut box. The box was simple in design, in addition to two small holes for light to be shined into the box, there is a larger hole covered with a semi-transparent screen and ornamented with more laser-cut pieces. I also included a hinged door so the chaos of broken glass on the inside could be viewed.
The second part of the glass was the broken glass and colored gels that create the colored reflection. I hand placed and adjusted all of the pieces of glass and once they were in a spot I liked I hot glued them in place. I also utilized a 3D printing pen to make parts to attach to the mirror shards that made it so they could reflect the light in a specific way.
