Looking Glass AR

on

for this site-specific project I am interested in accessibility with augmented reality and want to allow the user to be device-free by installing the hardware into the site in a way that fits the location. My overall location will be on WPI campus or within a few blocks of campus. I am currently still researching the best history or story to tell based on the location, but as a backup, I would choose something to do with flight or the sky because the school is sitting on a hill and I love the views and the way the clouds looks so possibly working with the open space just above the trees.

Often times access to fancy cell phones or technology is not always possible so I wanted to create an AR experience that does not ask for the user to hold, move, or even own a device of their own to experience the work. Lastly, I want the housing of the technology to be masked by the theme of the project. This could be as simple as creating a box or holder that disguises the way the technology looks in an attempt to keep the view more engaged with the artwork or their natural environment.

Darren, this is such an interesting experience. I have waited since I was little, playing with my viewmaster to experience something like this. I love peering into things but also in a weird way we are peering out of something into a different somewhere. I cannot wait to give this a go.
