Practice Intention – Unity

Although I am an IMGD Master student at WPI, my undergraduate degree was only in Computer Science. I probably do not have as much experience with game development as many of my other students. I have played around with Unity and Unreal in my free time to try to teach it to myself, but I would love to be taught how to use them better through school if I can.

Throughout the semester, I must train with my practice intention at least six times. This should aid in my learning a lot, and I am very excited to get better at this game engine. I know the basics of these engines, and would like to dive deeper into learning more of at least Unity (since it would probably help with learning both engines).

Scene I built with Unreal
Scene I built with Unreal (A Basement Den)
Scene I built with Unreal (replicating Rocket League)

To be extremely specific, if I were to choose one thing to get better at in Unity (and Unreal), it would be making great scenes that don’t cause the game to lag so much (with all of the assets in the scenes I make, the game often lags a lot). I also would be very interested in trying to create my own objects for the scenes rather than getting them from the store.

I suppose this is slightly more towards the 3D modeling category of intention, but that’s fine with me. It would still help me with learning Unity more. In our class, I believe that we will be working with Blender for this, but I am willing to learn it any way I can! Anything else I learn along the way will be a bonus for me, and the more I learn the better.
