Originally I had planned to use Vuforia & Unity to identify pre-made images in real-world space, and then use that capability to create some game functionality. I had used Vuforia before for a similar project, but I forgot that it has licensing & account requirements that would not be accessible to me in this project.
So instead of Vuforia, I used AR Foundation & ARcore in Unity in order to access their built-in AR capabilities, such as using the camera on a mobile device for plane recognition. The final application I created was nothing like what I originally planned, but it was still fun to work in an AR environment.
The application I created identifies horizontal planes in the camera view and draws dirt over them to identify the playable space for the player. The user then controls a little mouse that runs around the environment by following a targeting reticule controlled by the player. The player can move the camera to move the reticule.
I find my expectations of what AR can do, far exceed what is possible frequently. This is adorable. What are your plans for this in the future? Can you see yourself porting it to any other platforms? I was impressed with your perseverance in the modeling phase.
