Bruce Munro Light Artist

A Light artist with 30+ years of experimentation in the light art field.

Born in 1959, he Went to a few schools for art in his childhood. He started college at Bristol Polytech in Fine Arts but after 2 year he took a break. In this time away from school he worked a number of different jobs, until one day he decided that his passion was art and went back to finish his degree. After getting the degree he moved to Australia where he again worked a number of odd jobs until getting a job as an illustrator. Which allowed him to pursue art again while making decent pay. Later in his life he began to work with illuminated signs, which later on turned into his passion of light art sculptures and setups. This passion took him throughout the world allowing him to set up breathtaking exhibits.

Light of Fields
A Lighting exhibit that has been set up in numerous places across the globe for varying amounts of time. It is a field of stemmed spheres lit by fiber optics with slowly changing colors to simulate a field in the breeze. He thought of this idea while hiking in Uluru AU.

Viva Tree 2017

Located at  Texas Tech University Lubbock, Texas. It was created keeping the areas vast Spanish arts and culture in mind. It is Bruce Munro’s salutation to the future artists that go to the school. It is made of 320 acrylic rods fiber optics

Don’s Flamingos and Rhamandu’s Table

Inspired by Don Featherstone. it uses Flamingos, light reactive granules and UV light at the bases of the flamingos. The flamingos are bright pink during the day then become vibrant from the reflection of the pool around them at night . It is said that a sound track of hundreds flamingos is played along with it.

Gathering of the Clans 

Made of eight Hills Hoist clothes lines and fluorescent acrylic paint on a large number of clothespins. This is made to simulate a time and a place from his youth. Located at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, USA
