Jim Campbell

by Adam Murrison

I chose to learn more about Jim Campbell’s work’s after seeing one of his pieces entitled “Scattered Light.” As someone who has a highly experienced background in electrical and engineering, I find it really fascinating seeing all the other works he has made as well.

Using a combination of LED lights, bulbs, and other materials to diffuse light, Jim Campbell is able to make interactive video and pixilated representations, while also using low resolution images and videos to focus more on how motion leads to our interpretation of the pieces.

Other famous pieces of his include “Day for Night,” which is the tallest artwork on earth due to being the top of the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. He also has other pieces in Manhattan, such as “Voices in the Subway Station” and “Broken Window.”
