Hannu Huhtamo

Hannu Huhtamo is a light artist that specializes in light painting with prolonged exposure. He studied at the Pop and Jazz Conservatory and was a musician before pursuing light painting. His first experience with any sort of light art was drawing a pentagram on an open shutter to be used as album art for his band. After getting a taste for this new art form, Hannu began exploring and experimenting to find his style. His only rule for himself is that every piece he creates is created directly in the shutter, he never uses any sort of software to digitally alter his creations. His artwork can broadly be separated into 4 different categories: Human emotion and expression, abstract and inanimate shapes, humanoid creatures, and nature inspired.

His pieces on human emotion often have a human subject from which light seems to burst forth from. Some pieces have a human in a deep pensive state seemingly calm with a flurry of light to show how the mind can race when the body is still. Others still have the light flowing from a posed human showing energy extending past the physical form.

His pieces on inanimate objects follow a similar trend, using light to express something the physical world does not. One piece has a guitar with wisps of light flowing around it, seeming to illustrate the music that can flow from such an instrument.

Finally his pieces relating to nature are more focused on natural organic shapes, Most often portraying some sort of flower or tree made of pure light.
