Hi Class, My name is Chenggu Wang, a senior RBE/ME student. My experience with art making started with traditional Chinese Ink Wash Painting when i was in elementary school. That was the time i started to turn my random graffiti into something more artistic, with a hint of traditional eastern aesthetics built into my work. Throughout the school years,  I’ve always been interested in making something cool. At WPI, I went with the digital art path. I was exposed to many artistic tools such as 3d modeling, animation, and graphic design. I’m fascinated by how art flourished in the digital world and the infinite possibilities that people can do with powerful art software. I’ll often think of myself as a creative maker rather than an artist, I love to make cool stuff that encompasses my unique design and personality.  At my free time, i usually just browse Youtube for interesting maker videos. As an inspiration for this class project, i want to put together a few ideas i’ve got from cool creations on the internet involving fire, tornado/helix shape, infinite mirror reflections, and color variation from burning various elements. I’ll have to explore budget, safety and what’s feasible within these seven weeks, and come up with a artistic creation that i’m proud of. Being  a robotics student at wpi, I am familiar with programming, electronics and will be somewhat competent of making small gadgets that operates on Arduino or Raspberry Pi. At this point i’m not entirely sure if my project is gonna be high-tech or low-tech, but i’ll stay open minded and explore what combination best express my artistic idea. So here i am for the light art practicum, I’m really excited to be in the class with you all, and i cant wait to discover what i can do with these seven weeks.

On a side note, unfortunately much of my past art work were lost in the network drive. Here are some low resolution snippets i found for my 3d modeling project, apologies for the graphic quality.
