Introduction: Jon Venne

Hi, I’m Jon and I like lights and art. I am a senior studying Mathematics but a freshman in terms of light art. In particular, I’m interested in art that takes advantage of present context. Something that can be unique and new every time but that you can tell is from the same source like how a music visualizer changes from song to song but maintains the same look. This makes me wanna do something in nature or taking advantage of natural forms.

Traditional Arts:

I have done some classic pencil to paper (or at times pastel to paper) art as seen below. While it may have been a tad time consuming to do, I enjoyed the calming, mildly therapeutic, feeling of sitting down and settling into working on a piece for hours at a time. These two pieces are from fall of 2015 when I did my most hand drawing.

I’ve also done some light impressionism work like this piece copying a work by Toulouse Lautrec. (My secret was to use a projector to trace it at first)

Digital Art:

In 2017, I began working in digital media through the 3D modeling and animation classes here at WPI. 3D modeling class gave me exposure to static creations, while animation made me more aware of poses, forms, and motion in the world.

Music:

For music, you can always find me whistle noodling or trying to do whistle covers (usually in private). I also love singing (also in private), which I only really started doing toward the end of high school. A rare example of my musical prowess can be found below where me and 2 of my friends produced, wrote, performed and recorded our own original rap music video called Sauerkraut. Together, we are Sunday Warship.

For a taste of my coding prowess, take a gander at these real pieces of art:
