Concept Proposal

on

As I was looking through projects from previous classes, I came across a very unique one that I would love to make myself. It is an origami light mural. It consists of 780 origami balls of either white, blue, or grey and each one is on an LED light.

Project from D18

I thought this was a great idea and I think it would be put to good use if I ever wanted to take pictures with my friends in front of it. I am still working on how to make my project original, but I’ve been playing around with different designs in my head.

This would be simplified a lot due to the physical limitations
This could set the mood of the room

Additionally, I’m wondering if I should use a different origami shape.

Original design used

I am still brainstorming and open to suggestions.

This is a cool idea! I think I mentioned this in class as well, but maybe you could make the lights dynamic so if you did the gradient it would be like a flowing gradient?

I think that the ombre pattern would look really pretty for this project, you could get paper that has subtle changes into the next color so that it would look less like separate pixels and more like a cohesive piece.

I know you’ve mentioned a lot of emphasis on trying to make your artwork original from this initial idea, I definitely don’t think theres anything wrong with utilizing the same process (like the origami shape). Rather, the originality can be more so focused on just how/what you want your artwork to look like using this medium (obviously if you want to adjust the medium itself I think thats a great idea as well, just more challenging)

If you did something like the sea from previous year, or even with the gradient it would be pretty cool if you could make it animated too. It would probably have to be a pretty simple animation, but it could add another level to your idea.

I think tying the piece into a theme and adding small enhancements to add onto the theme would make the artwork very unique. For example, with the tapestry design, it looks very floral so making the piece out of fake flowers or origami flowers would work very well and make for beautiful backdrop.
