When I started this project I wanted to create something that would blend together a regular physical medium with a digital one. I can confidently and happily say that I have achieved this to a standard that I am happy with. This is definitely a piece that looks better in person, but I’ve tried to capture the experience as best as I could in the below gifs. In order to keep the electronics where I wanted and protected I laser cut an enclosure that from the front is covered by the original frame.
In order to display on the LCD screen I am currently using an application called mplayer, but I hope to improve this in the future to use a more robust system. The LED screen is using HZeller’s “rpi rgb led matrix” library to take a custom gif and display it looping on the LCD matrix.
I really like the concept behind your final project and I think that you did a great executing it!
This looks really cool! I like how you incorporated an animation with light into a picture. I think they fit together really well! Great job.
The way the LEDs show up behind a printed picture is entirely new to me and something I didn’t know was possible. I feel like it really highlights the fact that the people are the most important part of the setting; their relationship is what brings their environment light.
I think your idea to animate the still image with LEDs behind the picture was really novel way to give motion to your project, great job!
This looks pretty awesome and in class I thought that the animation worked really well. I’ve never seen anything like this before and it’s pretty incredible that you cannot see any of the LEDs behind the picture when they are turned off.
