Maquette: Chenggu Wang

Over this past week, i’ve been scavenging parts and trying to find useful tools to build towards my projects.

For the cylinder, i found a clear glass bottle that used to hold water plants. I was going around campus to see if there are resources to cut it in half, but noting promising at the moment.

Suggestion from class: Talk to Karin about glass blowing workshop

For the actuation system, I acquired a motor, Arduino, plastic linear slider and other necessary links and parts. However, one concern i have is that the light weight slider i have is not going to support the weight of the glass bottle.

suggestion from class: try out drawer slider as an alternative

For the flame coloring source, there are a few common chemicals that can be found. Here are my shopping list

lithium salt from dead battery: red flame

table salt : yellow

calcium salt: orange

borax laundry booster (boric acid): green

rubbing alcohol: blue

potassium salt (non sodium salt substitute): magenta/violet

suggestion from class: reach out to chemistry lab and see if they offer those chemicals
