Everything Working

on

After experimenting with lighting prototypes on fire, I began the process of building my final sculpture. This process began with building a spherical metal frame and connecting it to a thick wooden base. From here, the dynamic component of the sculpture could be constructed. This portion consisted of a metal rod with spikes of wood on one end and pieces of rock on the other for balance. Much trial-and-error was used to balance the dynamic piece so it would rotate into the position I desired. An example of the dynamic piece working is shown in the video below.

After the dynamic piece was working, I built a wooden face around the rest of the frame. The face is made of wood, tape, screws and rope. I tried using thicker pieces of wood in the key components to ensure they would take longer to burn. I finished by coloring various components of the face with spray paint.
