I like your immersive cave idea. One idea I thought you could add would be to turn on a random light drop to match when a water drop plays in the audio. Use a mic so that when water droplet occurs in audio randomly choose one of the light drops to turn on. Not sure how hard that would be. I think for audio volume probably no louder than -20dB. I would do -35dB to keep it on the softer calming side (I just put rain sound in Ableton). Not sure if that is proper measurement I was using headphones.
I like the cave idea very much! Very unique for a light art project. From an audience perspective, I would expect to hear a clear dripping sound when the water drips. So you might want to make it one level louder than barely audible.
