In the past, art has been a passtime that I enjoyed since I was young, and I have always been inspired by my other friends who were talented at art. Seeing what they made got me to practice my art more and more until I learned how to create various pieces of art.

Most of my art is primarily practice to see what I can do for the time, but I am still learning about how I can improve my pieces. Primarily, I focus on improving fundamental skills, and proportions for any given piece. The piece above was a more recent creation I made within the past year and is one im proud of. I made this utilizing a pencil drawn sketch and then imported the sketch into a digital art program. From here, I filled in the colors as I went along and added my own personal details to create the final product. However, I didn’t start with Digital Art.

Masterplay from AR1100

When I first entered WPI, I figured it would be best to refresh my knowledge in the fundamentals so that I can work on colors and blending through all of my work. I created a masterplay based on Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix, and related it to political views at this time. Following this, I wanted to see how I could improve my art digitally.

AR1101 Final Project: A cover for a book focused on duality

Following my inital experiences with art, I wanted to see how I could improve digitally as I prefered this method due to the efficiency of the software. AR1101 showed me how to utilize Adobe Photoshop and illustrator to their fullest potential and use the features to edit and manipulate various features. While this was an important moment for my art, I realized that I still needed to do more to improve my art.

One aspect I knew I struggled with when it came to art was proportions. I knew that was a constant thing that I struggled with, and wished to only improve my art further as proportional design is key when drawing a character. Following the figure drawing class AR2201, I decided to continue practicing proportions to see if I could ever improve my art. Eventually, it led to me creating various other designs.

While much of my art is still very far from perfect, I want to continue practicing my art with a hope that I eventually reach the same quality as the friends who inspired me to sketch and draw whatever my mind can imagine.

Hi Tyson, I will give you the Colorful badge. I like the shades of blue and gray you used for your custom helmet design.

FAMILIAR: I like your Beyond Our Lives digital painting. The concept reminds me of a similar drawing that I did once where a character was split down the middle with two different themes. I like how different the two themes are, yet they still mesh together very well.

FAMILIAR: Your drawings are comforting, especially the “Beyond Our Lives” cover. Liking the decisive colors.
