First off Light Graffiti sounds cooler than Light Painting so that’s what I am going to call it. I now have a DSLR camera and a nice flashlight with blue painters tape for a blue light. I will be limiting myself to blue light which is an aesthetic I like inspired by the light painting video shown in class.

I first need to create a simple main shape/character for all my work that can be easily replicated. Then I will create a collection of 9-16 images with my character in different environments. I will start off in my apartment and then move to more spots around campus. I like the idea of doing graffiti without leaving anything behind.
My hope is that I will be able to recreate my character with ease at different locations. I will be keeping the character simple much like DARIUSTWIN’s minimalist work.

I also want to create a 30-60 sec stop motion video similar to the Nyan cat video shown below where the focus is on my character moving through different environments. I would like to animate it at 24 fps and incorporate my own original music as the video soundtrack. 240 images for a 10 second video and 1440 images for a 1 minute video. You can see how it might end up being a lot of work to animate.
Rough Project Milestones:
- Character Images (Dial in camera settings + reps drawing same character)
- Polish Character Images (Choose best takes + maybe learn Adobe Lightroom to polish)
- Simple Stop Motion (Animate a squiggle + learn how stop motion is done in Adobe Premiere)
- Add Short Scenes to Final Video
- Polish Final Video
Final Project Deliverables:
- Light Graffiti Collage (9-16 Images)
- Light Graffiti Stop Motion (30-60 sec Video)
Questions:
- Any ideas for minimalist character?
- Do you think I should create an interactive website to showcase the images and video?
Some tests so far. It is a lot harder than I thought…

Really cool project idea and you’re already starting on it! I think having an interactive website can really make it even better.
Appreciate it, I will see what kind of web dev stuff I could learn to make the experience interactive.
The early tries seem cool enough for me! Art styles like Keith Haring or Mr. Doodle’s might blend well with your piece.
