Hey all, I doubled down on feedback light painting, and my initial experiments have been super fun to play with. Check out that video below.
My main issue now is to really nail down the best way to use it in line with my concept. Adding video includes the viewer and completely shifts the medium. Additionally, I have done some work already with real-time, radial geometric shapes, so I’m thinking about interesting ways to combine the two but that’s still up in the air.
For the input, I’d like to speak with you all about wireless options, or, I could have the viewer stand on the circuit with their bare feet to activate the piece. I also have to think about what type of lights the viewer could wear – I might be look at making some sort or sleeve or shirt, as bright clothing can affect it.
I’m going to steal a dslr camera and draw video from that to see if I can get better quality out of that as well.

Said this in class today, but you could totally make that value adjustable on the website/html by adding a slider, or even with the keyboard arrows. That way users can adjust it for lighting in any room/setting. I believe you also mentioned hooking it up to a DSLR. I don’t know if you are looking for super high quality footage or maybe the aesthetic. But I think you could easily get away with a small, cheap, and discrete web cam instead.
I agree with Ty to use a webcam so you don’t have to deal with borrowing camera. Just using a handheld light to paint is very compelling. One opinion I have would be to make the trails fade completely to black over time instead of leaving behind gray.
