Hanwen Xu – Polish & Present & Final

on

Hi, here is the final update of my progress in my light art project!

As the whole system is working now, the only step left for me is to attach the whole piece to my jacket. First, the EL wires use a USB power source, so I can power the EL wire up with a portable battery.

For the EL wires, they need to be on my jacket. I have sketched a few patterns and realized it would be much more efficient for me to just get my hands on it and try different combinations out. This was an iterative process and I settled down on my final design after a few tries. I used safety pins to fix the EL wire in their place.

And this is what the EL wires look like when they light up, with the gas mask controller fully installed and powered.

It is already looking good!

The last step is to glue the EL wires on the front of my jacket so the pattern could be more fixed when I move around my body. I don’t want the EL wires on my back to be glued as I want to leave more space for them to move around and not be too tight.

After gluing everything up and removing the excessive hot glue, you can see the pattern now looks much more solid and clean. The piece is ready to go!
