Hi, y’all! This is Hanwen Xu coming from China. I am a Junior in IMGA with a CS minor. Making art is both one of my biggest interests and what I plan to do for a living in the future. I have been doing traditional fine arts as a hobby since primary school. I enjoy drawing, painting, and making arts in general.

I started picking up digital art in high school, mostly graphic-design-related stuff. After entering WPI is when I really began diving into digital art. Although my focus in IMGA is technical art, I have done digital art in various mediums including 3D modeling, 3D animation, interactive electronic art, and 2D animation.

I started learning programming after I came to WPI. I would say I am more at the art side of the spectrum, but I do have some knowledge of programming. I enjoy programming a lot and I am more than ready to learn more about it. And I have some experience in making art with electronics such as Makey Makey or Arduino Uno.
My creative inspirations come from a lot of places, mainly music, and games. I am a big fan of Japanese punk music and Shibuya-Kei. If you recognize these two album covers we can be really good friends.

I recently did an ISP in Houdini VFX. I created an explosion effect with Houdini in Unreal Engine, and I am pretty happy with the outcome.
You’re the type of person that I wish I could become. Know art well, creative, and have a lot of technical knowledge.
Oops, forgot the badge! Impressive badge for you! Again, your work impressed me a lot!
Hi Hanwen, I will give you the Cute badge. I really like the hand-drawn, minimalist style of your piece with the penguin and mailbox.
i’m giving you the gorgeous badge because of that car model – it looks so realistic! the explosion effect is also very well-done, looks like it would be right at home in an FPS!
I’m giving you the “shiny” badge. Your 3D models look great and even your hammer and nails sketch looks like shiny metal
QUIRKY: love the quirky little penguin. If thats a 2D animation, I would like to see the whole video at some point
DETAILED: Wow that sketch is amazing. Also your work in Houdini is awesome, both the abstract and the car. Shout out for the magician-like act you had in interactive art, that was awesome.
