Hanwen Xu – failure and progress

on

Hi, this is my update on the breath-visualizing wearing light art project.

The first problem I wanted to deal with is the fact that multiple EL wires connecting to a single converter are not as bright as a single EL wire connecting to a single converter.

I managed to get a beefier converter in order to get better brightness. But the result was not good at all.

Top: 5V converter, bottom: 12V converter. A comparison in the same lighting environment and same camera setting shows no performance difference between the two. So the 12V converter was a waste of money and time. It will be used as a backup if I break the 5V converter.

I also tested sticking EL wires on different surfaces using a glue gun. Because EL wires are made of plastic, they tend to bend over by themselves. So I need a large amount of glue to hold them in their position. Luckily, the glue is easy to peel off and remove.

Last but not least, I tested sticking EL wires on fabrics using my sweatshirt.

The EL wire adheres pretty well so far and I think I am ready to proceed to the next phase after I get more glue for my glue gun.
