Introduction and Portfolio – Marco

Cloth, Charcoal

Hi my name is Marco,

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, as well as Mexico for a few years but I don’t really remember it so I do not know how much that really counts then. I decided to major in architectural engineering as it was a crossroads of art and sciences. I always wanted to be able to create things when I grew older but also found myself interesting more in the science-based topics.

Maine, Photography

I have always been drawn to visual art as I feel that it definitely comes more naturally to me than other forms of art as well as it does not require any performance which is good. Visual art, especially drawing or painting, personally feel limitless in comparison to other forms of art like dance and theater. I am also not the best with words and writing feels leagues harder than most visual arts. I really enjoy detailed oriented art that I can look at for a long time and constantly find new things. I also enjoy concept art for games or worlds as well as nature photography. I feel that this is sometimes where I draw a good deal of my inspiration from. For many summers I have been to or worked at an outdoors education camp that has really opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and its complexity.

For visual art I have worked mainly with drawing, and in terms of digital art have done a decent bit of photography. I have also done some painting but struggle with mixing paints to get the colors I want and have made a few short films for classes.

Princess Bride Scene Recreation, Film

I have not really worked with much or any programming or electronics unless those lego robots count. I think it would be interesting to do more work in this field though as it is something that I have never really tried. In the field of programming art I think that I would be most interested on things like visualizers and the such.

The first artwork in this post, the stylized grey-scale self portrait, absolutely caught my eye. I found the completely blank eyes striking and slightly mysterious and scary. The most interesting part is the detailed linework, however. I really enjoy the tree-bark-like patterns, especially the intense detail on the eyebrows. Your photography is equally striking both in composition and sharp definition.
