Final Documentation

In the past I have done light art photography so for this class I really wanted to explore and push the idea of light art. While doing research I realized that some illusions are forms of light art as they use the eye perception of color to make an image seem different than it actually is. In the end I decided on using the “red reveal” trick and would hope that my piece would be an interactive on.

I think that if something like this using these gel filters was to be put in an exhibit overhead lighting should definitely be taken into account as the glossy filters generally create a lot of glare, especially in photos. I think a piece like this would currently fit more into a science exhibit but with more work it could make that step towards being in an art exhibit.

I also think that if this, or something like it were to be in any exhibit it would work best if placed on something like a lectern or standing book stand. This would make it easy to use and give it more visual appeal. Unfortunately I do not have either a lectern or standing book stand so I could not achieve this effect.

In reality I feel that I could have done more with this project if I was not double overloading, to make the art a bit better and maybe try and tweak some of the colors to make the illusion better. I was also curios about if maybe different filters would make the effect more clear. While I think that this piece is not the best I definitely think it has sparked an interest is me about light and color, and I may want to pursue more art in the field to redeem myself.

The concept of light and colors illusions is very interesting. I think it is great how you accomplished this with your root drawing.

I am glad you were able to learn more about the light illusions and gain a better understanding of how it works and what could be done in the future to improve upon.

I think your project idea is definitely a unique one in this class. I would love to see more pictures of what you managed to accomplish, even if it isn’t quite done yet.
