Introduction and Art Portfolio- Haney

My name is Mariah Haney and I am from Hill, a small town in central New Hampshire. Art is a huge part of my current life, and is one of my biggest hobbies. In my current life I use art as a way to express myself, and as a stress reliever. It is one of my favorite things to do. My life goal is to be a mechanical engineer with a concentration in design. Art fits into design because sometimes you have to think outside of the box to come up with a design for a specific task. Art teaches me to be a creative thinker, which is an ability that is very important in a STEM field. Another one of my life goals is to be a very well rounded person, which art is helping me archive.

I have a lot of experience with traditional art, including coloring, drawing, and painting. The most common mediums I work with are colored pencils, chalks, graphite, and watercolors. Watercolors are one of my favorite traditional art mediums to work with because of how soft and blended the finished product looks. I have not had much experience with mixing electronics and art, but that is something that I want to start incorporating into my creative process.

The only electronics that I have used with art is string lights back lighting a canvas. Other creative arts that I am highly involved in are sewing, stained class, refurbishing, and crafting. Sewing is a creative art that I spend most of my time doing, with my projects spanning from wall hangings, quilts, and table runners to clothing and hair accessories.

My creative inspirations almost always come from nature, I love emulating the shapes and colors that you see in everyday life. When I sew, I love to use materials with flowers and use patterns that are very geometric. Recently this summer I have had a lot of time to sew, so I have made two dresses, 30 different hair accessories, a table runner, and place mats for myself and my family. I have also created two pieces of stained-glass artwork and drew using my chalks.

I love feeling that I have something to be proud of and have made an accomplishment when I make my art. Art is one of the most important aspects of my life.

Colorful. The stained glass piece is incredible! Love your sewing (I’m also guilty of sewing bulk hair accessories this summer) (the dress is definitely above and beyond my skill level though!).
