Introduction and Art Portfolio

Hi everyone!

I’m Mario, I’m from Western Massachusetts and I’m a computer science major graduating in 2021.

Art fits into my current life as a form of self expression which provides a well-needed escape from my more technical work as a computer science major. I’m hoping to work as a software engineer in the industry after graduation and I’m sure art will continue to play a role in my life in the future.

My experience in art involves…

Traditional…

I’ve taken a variety of drawing based art classes at WPI like Figure Drawing and Human Figure in Motion. In these classes, I mainly focused on traditional graphite pencil and paper drawing with the occasional use of charcoal sticks for shading.

Digital…

In addition to the art classes mentioned above, I have taken 3-D modeling 1 where I sculpted my own model of an Alien from the “Alien” movie series using ZBrush and then rendering it with KeyShot.

My experience in tech involves…

My experience with programming and electronics is fairly vast as a computer science major. I’ve created mobile apps, worked on numerous software projects, and had an internship in the software engineering field. My favorite software project so far has been working on my software engineering class project where we created a kiosk application for Brigham Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

Some of my creative projects…

I really enjoy working with my hands and basically live at Home Depot.

A bar I made for my room
A piece of jewelry I made using a butane torch and sterling silver

I have other projects that I unfortunately do not have photos of; like a homemade aluminum melting forge, and a mini-fridge converted into a kegarator. My current ongoing project I am working on in my free time is a portable blacksmith setup using a homemade propane burner and fire brick forge.

My creative inspirations

I am deeply inspired by DIY YouTube creators like Colin Furze and King of Random. I really like trying to make things from scratch myself and I’m super excited for this opportunity to create something unique using light.

Detailed. You’ve done a remarkable job recreating the alien from the movie. I’m very impressed with all the details you’ve put in such as the various bumps and ridges in it’s skin. They really make it come alive.

Dark. Your Alien model while a dark model is extremely detailed and well done.

Dark, the alien model is incredibly detailed from the muscle anatomy down to even the teeth. The creature’s dynamic pose gives it a very sinister/stalker-like feel.

Familiar. Some of the Youtubers you mentioned are my inspirations as well. Also, I took figure drawing and used charcoal like you to create some cool pieces.

    Dark.
I have to give you the dark badge because of that amazing Alien render! The cool blue-tinted grass base really feels like a natural stage for the alien, and the lighting is convincing. I’m also so curious about the necklace you made, and how you learned to work with silver and a blow torch. Sounds scary, but the outcome is clearly worth it!
