Final Documentation

on

Over the course of the past seven weeks, I have developed a centerpiece that went through many iterations. Originally, I was inspired by a previous year’s final project to create an origami light mural that displayed a cohesive image. Through trial and error, I developed a more abstract design that looks much different than originally intended. This piece consists of 400 LED string lights arranged in a 7-foot diameter spiral, each of which is covered by a tiny origami balloon. These balloons vary in shades of blue and fade to white as it gets closer to the middle of the spiral.

Even without the lights, I think that the color gradient looks appealing. When the lights are turned on, however, the gradient is evident and alters the shade of the colored lights. Additionally, there are settings on the lights that allow the LEDs to jump and fade to different colors. Overall, I’m happy with the way it turned out and I had a lot of fun creating it.

This looks really cool! I’m impressed by the size of the piece! I really like your decision to go with RBG lights. The color gradient and pattern on the origami is really pleasing to look at too, even without LEDs!

The ripple effect is really cool and looks like water almost. Also, its impressive the amount of leds and origami balloons you used for this project. I like, also, the paper color gradient, it adds a lot to the piece and looks cool with the lights on and off.

when you talked about the idea in earlier weeks it seemed as if it would have been smaller. Your project is much bigger than I expected and I could see it being at an art exhibit.

Your final project and documentation turned out really well! Again, I love how you can change the lights and even have a decorative piece without the lights. I think your spiral design was able to show off the gradient and portray a cool effect. Great job!

I really love all the details of the folded paper you can make out when you get closer to the installation. The scale of the project really makes me feel immersed in the light show. I especially am fond of the gradual hue changes you show in the video. I’m sure this is quite a bright project to have on your wall! Great job and it was so fun hearing about your process.

I think the large amount of time you put into folding all these origami balls definitely paid off. The gradient effect created some really nice patterns as well and was a great addition.
