Hari & Deepti

“Tales of the Mist”

Hari & Deepti are a husband-wife duo of light artists that primarily work with hand-cut paper and light boxes. They initially started in 2010 in Denver, CO as an experiment. Since then they have made their light art their full time job and have moved to Mumbai.

Hari & Deepti use their art as a means to tell stories. They believe that just as stories have shades and depth so does paper, which makes it the perfect medium. They work by hand tracing, cutting, and layering paper over a light box to create a window into their story.

When they began they used watercolors in addition to the paper layers, however they have now since removed the color from their works. Despite their works telling a story little detail is given about the scenes, leaving the viewer to draw their own conclusions. They recently have put out a picture book called “The Seekers” that incorporate color back into their work.

I love the story telling aspect of their work and how the audience can come up with their own stories too!
