Stained Glass Lantern
I have always been interested in working with stained glass as I love the visual effects of it.
I was thinking of having four different stained glass pieces held together by a wooden structure. Each stained glass piece would be a different flower design. My idea is to have each of the glass panels be a trapezoidal shape so that the lantern shines the pattern on the table or floor. The top is solid wood so that the light fully goes through the glass instead of out of the top and bottom.
My other option for this is rectangular sides so that the design and color are reflected against the walls.

Here is the original inspiration photo that I saw:

Yarn and Wood Lantern
Then I started thinking about other options in mediums I am more familiar in and have more materials for. I still enjoyed the idea of a lantern that had a picture that would show on the wall or ground, so I thought of a shadow display instead of colors with a crocheted design.

There would also be a wooden structure holding all four sides together, which would be different flowers.

This is a macrame lanter with a similar idea of the shadows I would like to have show on the wall. And the image above is a crochet technique called filet which I have never tried before and I was initially thinking to make the design out of.
3D Stained Glass Flower Garden
Then I thought about going back to stained glass which I am interested in working with, but a different design.
I love three dimensional object so I was interested in making a flower that wasn’t just in the second dimension. But I wanted a bit more of a light edge to it, which is why I thought lantern first, so I have the idea of placing lights underneath the three dimensional flowers so that light goes up through the glass. I was also thinking of having it as a little garden so that it would take up an adequate amount of time for the term. I would be making different types of flowers and have a glowing flower garden by the end.

Here are some 3D stained glass flowers that inspired my idea.

All of these ideas are static with no moving parts and I haven’t had the materials or time to create prototypes or examples to test with.
Artist Questions:
I’m wondering which idea everyone likes the most?
Or if there are any thoughts or ideas to improve any of these designs?
If anyone has worked with stained glass, if I should project the colors down, up , or perfectly to the side for a good impression of colors and the design that I create?
As we were discussing in class, I think the combination of both the crochet and the stained glass would be cool. One thing that you could do is create a wire frame for the lamp that allows for you to incorporate the stained-glass pieces and then crochet around. Something that might be worth looking into are Islamic lamps, as they sort of give off a similar vibe.
You have some cool ideas and I love that they all have the floral design in common. My personal favorite is the final concept of 3D flowers. In my opinion, this would make for the best decor to use once you’re done!
This project seems really cool. I’m also leaning towards the 3D flowers. I think a whole garden might not be feasible for the time we have in the term, but a stained glass bouquet of flowers might be more feasible and super cool to see!
Your concept of creating stained glass pieces held together by a wooden structure is beautiful and intriguing. The idea of trapezoidal panels to project patterns on the table or floor is particularly appealing. You could maybe make your designs upside down so when they are lit and projected onto a table or the floor, then the viewer will see them how they are supposed to be. Consider experimenting with both trapezoidal and rectangular shapes to see which effect you prefer.
I personally thing one of the lamp ideas would be really cool! I like how detailed your concepts are and if maybe you could find a way to combine 1 & 2(if that interests you) could be a super cool final product.
