Ben’s Autobiography

Hi everybody! My name is Ben, and I’m a Senior Architectural Engineering major here at WPI. I’m more recently from Easton, MA, but I grew up in central Pennsylvania. That mix of environments gave me an appreciation for both natural landscapes and built ones, which definitely influences how I think about design.

Art has always been an important part of my life, even if it’s more casual. I’ve always loved doodling and sketching—especially during chill moments or while thinking through ideas. I’ve attached a few pages from my sketchbook, as well as some of the projects I did while in the Essentials of Art course here at WPI.

In my studies, I find the most creative freedom during the early design phases of a project. I really enjoy shaping spaces through floor plans and digital models in programs like Revit or Rhino. I have attached some renderings/plans of some of my previous architectural studio projects.

I’m comfortable with programs like Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, Illustrator, and Photoshop, mostly for modeling, diagrams, and presentation work. I haven’t done much with programming or electronics yet, but I’m excited to explore how light and interaction can add a new layer to design through this class.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone creates this term—and to learning something new along the way. Can’t wait to get to know you all and see your work!

Clever. Your use of the page space and style complements each other very well. There is a certain sense of whim in your minimalist, iconographic style.
