Intro to Myself

Hello, I am Brian Leverock. I’m a current Chemical Engineering Senior also minoring in Astrophysics. I’m from Longmeadow a small town in Western Mass. Art to me has always been a form of expressing my view of the world, I find that sometimes I can’t get across what I mean when I’m explaining my thoughts but I like to think most forms of art show a different dimension to my brain, letting others in by exploring my own perspective. Art has always been influence in my family, going to art museums with my grandfather are some of my earliest memories. To this day I still stroll through the art museums just as slow as I did with him imagining what he might say about the piece in front of me.

When it comes to physical art I would consider myself to be “artistically challenged” I can’t draw, sculpt, or paint to save my life but I’ve always gravitated towards photography. Ever since I was little if I could get my hands on a camera I was taking photos of whatever I could. I also enjoy post-processing of images not only image adjustments but using one work to make another. I have some experience with programming but not that much, I took a kinetic art class here and so I have a minimal knowledge of components like motors in art but don’t enjoy working with them.

Other creative outlets for me include origami, writing, and learning. I often have a lot to say and getting to express it creatively is something I love, typically my works tend to be more humorous such as a 1500 word review I wrote about a random horse, or random powerpoints I make trying to put myself into the mind of someone who is taking whatever it is 100% seriously. I also catalogue/document my thoughts and opinions in my notes app writing reviews for songs, movies, books so that years later I can see how my thoughts have changed or if my memory starts to fade, records to keep reminding me.

Some creative inspirations for me are art museums, nature and music. Because my talent tends to remain solely in digital imaging and processing, I like to see how well I can push my skills in this media to replicate other styles of art or media. In the past I’ve done works replicating impressionism, film photography, and space telescopes. I also find creative inspiration mostly comes to me in the moment, when I have a camera in my hand I often look around and let my mind wander as I’m wondering around myself.

A place where my work can be found is my instagram @brian.lev13 however it is certainly not professional so be prepared if you go and look.

This is the work of art that I’m the most proud of. Although it looks like it could have been taken by the JWST it was actually taken from the third floor of Stratton. I was really struggling creatively at the time and just decided to go take photos outside. I had been so upset with how dark they were coming out and how only a few street lights were visible. Then, it hit me I could take multiple of them, lay them over each other and it would look like outer space.

I love working with light and color in most of my art so I’m very excited to get to work on a final send off to my WPI career. I think so much emotion can be displayed through light in any media form of artworks.

Some of my recent works (last few seem to be compressed for some reason):
