This week I really got my project somewhat complete in composition.
Honestly, after last class I was a bit disheartened about my project because I felt like I wasn’t capturing the vision I had in my mind and was beginning to brainstorm other projects I could switch to. That was until I tried to get into the Little Theater (didnt work out yet), and Riley Commons.
Over the weekend, I went home and collected a new glass object as well as a new light source which I’ll show later on. I also went out and bought another cheap sunset lamp to use and while I totally forgot it was USB only once I managed to work it out the results were almost perfect.
From now on I will be referring to things by L[X] and G[X] further down I explain the index I created but L is for light source and G is for glass.

First I tried using L1, L2, and L3 with L2 and 3 positioned so that they were facing away from each other and L1 at a downwards angle above to try and capture 3 shadows. L1 completely outshined L2 (no pun intended) which was not ideal.

Next, I turned off L1 and was debating whether I liked this look better because although there are less shadows they’re more clear from each light source still in use.

This is what it looks like with L1 turned back on and my hand covering half of L1. I wasn’t really sure what to make of this so I kind of just scrapped L1 all together.

Then when turning L1 off I accidentally knocked over L2 which led to the beams crossing and my final light composition being found.

(not quite sure why these are such low resolution)
Finally, I was contempt with my project, I knew how I wanted it to look and had somewhat implemented that. However, there are still some obstacles to work through:
- The exhibition(?) looks so much better in photos than it does in person. I have been using my phone to document so far, so I’m not sure if its just that a longer exposure time than regular eyesight leads to the product I want or if it’s some sort of internal intelligence of apple’s camera’s light processing capabilities that is leading to these photos.
- I still want to get into the Little Theater. I’m currently in contact with Professor Eckleman and it sounds promising.
- I might get one or two more glass objects, but I feel like the amount I have right now is just enough without it being too crowded.
- I’m indexing everything so that I can use pieces of tape to mark where I want differnet things so that when I pack up I don’t forget where everything was.

The look you get from the overlapping light is awesome! I think it would be really cool to see a, art exhibition type project for your final demo! I also think the wood pattern mizes really well with the light so I think if you do a multi-scene exhibition, it would be really cool to see multiple background types
I really love your progress with the beachy vibes of the lights. I hope we at least get to see a video, maybe pov style, of what it would look like to walk around in person. And definitely don’t be scared of more of your glass and more light, I think it’ll add a lot to have some more depth!
