The artist I chose to present on was Philipp Frank, a light artist from Munich, Germany. He creates art by projecting moving shapes, patterns, and other visuals onto nature. He’s projected on rocks, water, trees, mushrooms, and many other parts of nature, both alive and inanimate. He uses projection mapping, 3D modelling and scanning, animation, and photography to create his work. He was recently featured in a commercial for the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which started to earn him widespread recognition.
Another one of my favorites of his is called “Funky Funghi,” his first macro level projection project which was done on mushrooms.
My all-time favorite work of his is the rock below. His projection makes the rock glow and come to life and it’s almost difficult to believe that this was done in reality and not photoshop.
