Introductions-o-plenty – Aidan von Conta

Hi!

My name is Aidan von Conta, I’m an Interactive Media & Game Development student (in the audio concentration) from Harvard, Massachusetts. If there’s one odd detail about me that I’d wanna share, it’s that I love the rain.

While I still have plenty of fundamentals to tackle in essentially every artistic pursuit, I use whatever skills I have to make strange little creations. I enjoy 3D modeling primarily, mostly hard-surface and sometimes procedural art, but I sometimes suffer from chronic “get-halfway-through-then-forget-about-it-ism”. The short but intense bursts of class help with that. 🙂

A particularly ambitious (and unfinished) project (this one may not be loading, if it doesn’t then ignore it)
Something a little simpler to finish

I draw so much inspiration from one of my favorite sci-fi shows, Thunderbirds (by Gerry Anderson), and being able to replicate the kinds of scale models he had in Blender or some other appropriate 3D program currently sits as my main goal. Older sci-fi that uses kitbashed miniatures is something I adore, and Thunderbirds strikes a great balance between totally implausible and perfectly reasonable designs…most of the time.

As evidenced by my major, I am a sound guy and I bring my microphone everywhere I go. Just the other day, when it was demonstrably rainy, I took it out to get a lengthy sound bite. You can check it out below, but be warned, it’s a touch over 5 minutes.

Microphone in the wild!

I spoke briefly about my writing in class, I primarily write for Dungeons & Dragons, but I’m getting back into the habit of creative writing for no particular reason. I attached some excerpts should you be intrigued.

The badge I am giving you is clever. I like how you take the opportunity to get sound bites when/where you can. Your writing excerpts are also very interesting. Thank you for sharing your work!

The badge that I would give you is inventive, because I never would’ve thought about recording the sound of rain. I really enjoyed the soundbite and I’m sure that you have some really cool ones. I also think your writing excerpts are inventive because all writing is inventive to me. Thank you! I really enjoyed your work!

Inventive and clever. You have a great ear and being crafty enough to sample the rain is a really cool idea.
