Light Artist Presentation

Background:
Carnovsky is a duo of Francesco Rugi and Silvia Quintanilla. They are Milan-based and started collaborating in 2007. Their first RGB installation was shown during Milan Design Week 2010.

Tools & Techniques
They’re known for their RGB pictures that reveal different things underneath when a color filter or lighting is used. They do prints and objects, but most of their work is wallpaper. In an interview, Francesco said, “We love to use wallpaper, because it allows us to achieve an architectonic scale and create spaces and experiences where people are completely immersed in an ever-changing world.” Additionally, they also have children’s books that employ the same technique.

Concept & Ideas
“The idea behind RGB is that there are many different levels of meaning in things. What you see for the first time may hide other meanings, other worlds, and what is supposed to be flat may not be.” -Francesco. They focus on the exploration of the “surface’s deepness”

And a fun video that strays from most of their work as it seems to have less intense meaning and concrete subject matter!
